Contract Description

Description: This is a Request for Information (RFI) NOTICE open to all companies interested in performing the project described below. Your response should include a Capabilities Statement demonstrating your ability to perform this scope, your Sam.gov Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and an 80% confidence rough order magnitude (ROM) cost estimate on the design, fabrication, and installation of the hot cells described below. Capability statements, UEI, and ROM must be received by BSA no later than October 7, 2024. Scope: This scope entails engineering services, fabrication, installation and testing of Hot Cells within the Clinical Alpha Radionuclide Producer (CARP) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The hot cell will be modular construction comprising of a series of (6) hot cells: (1) Target Entry Cell, (2) Disassembly/Dissolution Cell, (2) Actinium Processing Cell, and (1) Waste Processing Cell. The Target Entry Cell is used for transferring targets into the hot cells for distribution to either of the adjacent Disassembly/Dissolution Cells. Disassembly/Dissolution Cells are used for preparation and for dissolution of the targets in acid. The Actinium Processing Cells are used for processing of the desired actinium isotope, short-term and long-term thorium decay for radium-223 and radium-224, and transfer of vessels to mini-cells or polishing gloveboxes (mini-cells and gloveboxes will be procured as general-purpose commercial off-the shelf). A viewing window and a pair of manipulators will be provided in each hot cell. The lead thickness will be calculated using the design basis source term derived by worst case conditions that assume that there is zero time elapsed between the end of beam on target and receipt at the Hot Cell. It is assumed for this analysis based on similar projects that the lead thickness will be twelve (12) inches thick for each cell. Pass-through chambers will need to be installed between each hot cell to allow for the passage of materials between each cell. NOTE: This RFI is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the U.S. Government, nor will the U.S. Government pay for information solicited. The information from this notice will help Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC (herein known as “BSA”), operator of Brookhaven National Laboratory under a Prime Contract with the U.S. Department of Energy survey available resources.
